jamaican jerk burgers

Home ~ Recipes ~ Blog

This recipe came my way via the Cooks Wares e-newsletter.

1 bunch green onions, coarsely chopped (about 1.5 cups)
1 Tbsp chopped fresh thyme
2 medium jalapeño chilies, seeded and chopped, or 1 small habanero chili pepper, seeded and chopped.
1 garlic clove, peeled
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 tsp ground allspice
2 lbs ground beef

Finely chop the first four ingredients in a food processor. Add the sugar and the next 3 ingredients and process until almost smooth. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Set aside 3/4 cup jerk sauce. Shape ground beef into patties. Place in a baking dish and pour about a 1/2 cup of jerk sauce over patties and turn to coat. Let stand at least 20 minutes. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Grill patties to desired doneness, brushing occasionally with remaining jerk sauce. Place burgers on a toasted bun with onion slices, tomato slices, and lettuce. Serve, passing reserved 3/4 cup of jerk sauce separately.
